Product Details
Fast, Flexible Lighting Mounting With 154 lb Magnetic Grip
Features
-
Fits Standard Light Brackets
An external thread with the included nut and split washer bolts the DJ-MAG to a standard DJ light bracket, keeping the connection tight through setup and teardown.
-
Small Enough for Any Gig Bag
At 42 mm (1.65") across and 20 mm (0.79") thick, the neodymium magnet mount stays low-profile on your gear and packs easily between shows.
-
Built to Resist Corrosion and Heat
A nickel-plated A3 steel housing resists corrosion, and the magnet holds its strength in temperatures up to 80°C (176°F) near hot light fixtures.
-
Quick Placement, Safe Overhead
Place lights on steel DJ booths, exposed steel beams, and metal DJ equipment in seconds, and add a safety cable whenever a fixture is mounted overhead.
-
The Right Fit
Rated for a maximum of 10 lb per mount when the full magnet face sits flat on clean, bare steel, so you know exactly which lights it can hold.

Support
Up to 10 lb, and only in ideal conditions: the whole face of the magnet flat against thick, bare steel with high iron content. Thin sheet metal, paint, powder coat, rust, curved surfaces, or even a small gap can reduce the maximum capacity, and some steel won't hold a light at all. Treat 10 lb as the most it will hold, not a promise, and test every mounting spot before the show.
The 0.688 kN (154 lb) number is pull force measured straight off a thick steel plate. Real mounts don't work like that. A light on a wall or ceiling pulls sideways and at an angle, the steel is usually thinner, and the magnet also has to resist bumps and movement. That's why the weight limit for a light is much lower.
It only grips magnetic steel or iron. Aluminum, brass, and most stainless steel won't hold it, and that includes most lighting truss. It grips best on thick, bare steel like beams and steel booth frames. Thin or perforated metal, such as some speaker grills and drop-ceiling grids, holds much less. To test a spot, stick the magnet on with no light attached and try to slide it by hand. If it moves easily, pick another spot.
It can. The 10 lb rating assumes a flat steel surface that isn't moving, not a cabinet shaking under heavy bass. Vibration can make the magnet creep and slide over the course of a night, especially on thin metal. Keep lights off subwoofer cabinets, use lighter fixtures on speaker grills, check every mount between sets, and add a safety cable to anything near the low end.
Yes, for anything mounted overhead or above people. A magnet can let go without warning if the surface flexes, gets bumped, or vibrates. Loop a safety cable (not included) from the light to a fixed point that will catch it. The DJ-MAG is made for positioning lights, not for rigging them overhead.
It has a threaded post that comes with a nut and a split washer. Run the post through your light's hanging bracket, then lock it down with the split washer and nut so the light can't spin or work loose. Check that the hole in your bracket fits the post before the gig.
Yes. It keeps its magnetic strength up to 176°F (80°C), so a warm LED fixture or a hot venue won't weaken it. Above that temperature, neodymium magnets can lose strength permanently.
